Grief Support Groups

This group is currently paused for the time being. This page will be updated as soon as the group begins meeting again. 

Journey To Hope is a parent-only grief group, supporting parents who have lost a child of any age to substance use. It was started by two moms in the Blackstone Valley area who met at a vigil held by the NOWA Peer Recovery Support Center in memory of those who lost the battle against SUD. Our goal is to offer one another peer support and understanding without judgment or bias. For our virtual meeting, you can find the link on the NOWA app, https://nowaedm.glideapp.io

 This group is specifically for people who are or have been affiliated with Learn to Cope and who have lost a loved one to drug-alcohol use

Starting 2/28/23 will be meeting virtually and in-person. The in-person address is:

This is a special Learn To Cope group that, in partnership between Learn To Cope and SADOD, welcomes people who have lost a loved one to a substance-use-related cause and also currently have a loved one who is struggling with substance-use issues (or is abstinent from substances or is engaged in harm-reduction services, etc.). Meeting discussions and guest speakers are on the topics of grief and/or being engaged with someone struggling with substance use. This is a video only meeting (there is no in-person meeting).

Beginning June 1, 2023, the grandparent/adult peer grief support program

will continue to offer two monthly Zoom meetings, each with a slightly

different focus.


First Thursday at 5:30 on ZOOM (June 1):


Open to any grandparent who has lost a family member to a substance

use-related death and is now navigating grief and other developmental

issues with their grandchildren. The focus of this group will be on the

grandchildren. Please email me for the link.


Third Monday at noon on ZOOM (June 19):


Open to grandparents who have experienced the death or estrangement of a

grandchild related to substance use disease (theirs or their parents). The focus of this group

will be grief support for the grandparent. Please email me for the link.


The most crucial point to remember is that while grandparents raising

grandchildren are invited to attend either or both groups, being a

grandparent guardian is not a requirement.

This peer grief group is for the LGBTQ+ community, 18 and older, who have experienced the death of someone they care about who died from a substance-use-related cause. For anyone 18 and over who has experienced the death of their only child due to substance use.

The group is for people who have lost someone close to them by overdose or other substance-related death. Its purpose is for members to support each other in coping with grief. The group is facilitated by Chloe Brosnan.
