I am Kyanna Harris-Hairston, a Peer Grief Support Specialist here at SADOD. I do this work in honor of my mother, Yvette, who passed away on December 6, 2021 to an accidental fentanyl overdose. My mother and I were best friends, she meant the world to me! When she passed, a piece of me did as well. I found myself longing to do something meaningful— something that related to what I had gone through with losing my mother. Through what I like to call “God’s will”, I ended up here at SADOD and I am forever grateful that I get to turn the pain of me losing my mother into something positive. I get to help others who share a similar yet unique story to mine and help them through the early stages in their grief journey.
