After graduating from Boston University with a degree in Marketing and Operations Management, my life took an unexpected turn when my son Noah's death in 1999 shattered the carefully planned path I had envisioned. This devastating loss led me to seek a new purpose that would address the genuine need for authentic grief information and support.
Combining my extensive business experience with my newfound mission, I founded The Grief Toolbox and developed the Walking Through Grief® program. These initiatives aim to create a global community of peer grief support, offering genuine resources and fostering connection. As the past president of the national board of directors of The Compassionate Friends, I actively contribute to this meaningful cause.
Through speaking engagements, inspirational presentations, and workshops, I have had the privilege of sharing my insights with diverse audiences. These experiences have allowed me to witness firsthand the transformative power of peer support and the importance of creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for individuals navigating their grief journeys.
In 2017, grief struck my life once again when I tragically lost my sister, Heather, and my father within a week of each other. These personal losses have deepened my understanding of grief and reinforced my commitment to supporting others in their moments of loss.
Additionally, I have a unique perspective as I live with the effects of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), as my oldest son has been struggling with chaotic substance use for years. This personal experience has further shaped my empathy and understanding of individuals and families facing its profound impact.
In addition to my grief journey and personal experiences with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), I am actively involved. I am the CEO of SADOD (Support After a Death by Overdose) project, which is a part of the Peer Support Community Partners. This initiative seeks to guide and assist individuals grieving the loss of a loved one due to substance use.
With diverse skills and life experiences, I am dedicated to empowering others to become compassionate and effective peer grief supporters. We can create a safe and supportive space where individuals facing loss and addiction can find solace, healing, and strength through connection. Let us walk this journey of grief hand in hand, bringing hope and understanding to those in need.
