Brief Video Shares Self-Compassion Practices

A group of peer grief helpers who meet twice a month in Massachusetts to identify and address issues that arise from their work recently viewed and discussed “Self-Compassion Practices for Peer Grief Helpers.” The presentation of Peer Support Community Partners, and the slides are available at bit.ly/compassionpgh. Based on Kristen Neff’s work, this brief video includes a number of suggestions on self-help techniques to create a healing experience for people who help others. Focusing on ourselves with kindness reminds us to care for ourselves while caring for others -- a critical skill when we open our hearts to others in their grief. The presenter in the video is Franklin Cook, a director at SADOD.
